God Puts Kibosh on Ghostbusters 3 Again

Wha? Ghostbusters 3 isn’t going into production next summer like Ivan Reitman just said it would? SOMEONE FIND ME MY MONOCLE IMMEDIATELY SO I CAN PUT IT ON AND HAVE IT POP OFF IN SURPRISE. From THR (again):

…multiple sources say Sony’s film studio seems to be almost paralyzed at least until the end of its fiscal year (March 31). Deals have been trimmed, and a source on the lot says Tokyo has mandated a “rigorous” reassessment of projects in the pipeline.
Any decision on Ghostbusters III, the long-, long-gestating sequel, has been postponed until the end of March — this after Men in Black 3 writer Etan Cohen was paid a huge sum for a script. Shooting was to begin next summer but now couldn’t start before fall at the earliest.
Look, I know the economy is in the shitter, but if that’s the price we pay so that Sony can’t afford to make Ghostbusters 3, well… let’s just say at least we know there’s a silver lining now, right?

In related news, the luxury apartment on top of the building where Gozer was summoned is currently for sale in NYC for a mere $35 mil. Gatekeeper and Keymaster not included, I’m told. (Via The AV Club)
