Talk and Relevant Discussions in Snark – 5-6-13

This week’s Doctor Who reminded me of a number of things: Willy Wonka and Bioshock, obviously, but also an old Marvel Star Wars comic called “The Crimson Forever” which scared the holy hell out of me as a kid because I thought it was a real disease, plus it gave Luke Skywalker red eyes and Vader hallucinations.

And talk about a real-life bio-shock – I had no idea Diana Rigg was already in her 40s when she did The Great Muppet Caper, so seeing her as an unrecognizable old lady was an adjustment.

Other pluses, IMO: it’s a real sign of confidence in a writer when there are ample scenes not involving the main character; having him show up so late was an interesting change, and the way the flashbacks were handled was cool. I’m sure someone will point out flaws that I missed, but for me I think this might have been the best episode of this new batch so far.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live made me hate it and realize I really don’t like Zach Galifianakis much at all – he works in the Hangover films because we’re supposed to dislike him. At any rate, the “nerdiest” sketch of the night went with a really radical, far-out premise we’ve never heard before: nerds need to get a life because they don’t know basic stuff outside of their fantasy worlds! Shatner should be collecting royalties on this shit…

Speaking of Game of Thrones, this thread is for discussing that too, and any other weekend TV shows. Have at it below.
