ABC Developing Star Wars TV Shows?

It’s the tiniest of tidbits, but buried in today’s Wall Street Journal Marketwatch Minute is a reference to Disney-owned ABC wanting to develop TV shows based in the Star Wars universe. The way they say it, it sounds like they’re talking about new standalone shows rather than the long developed live-action series we’ve been hearing about for years now.

It’s hard to imagine any Star Wars show not being prohibitively expensive to get right, though I’d be all for an unoffical reboot of Cheers set in the Mos Eisley cantina. And while the image above just struck me as funny to make, I would imagine all-CG characters like Jar Jar would be flat out as leads.

Tipster James.k.Polk suggests that a Star Wars/SHIELD programming block could rule them all. Is there any secondary Star Wars character akin to Coulson who could carry a spinoff? An older Ahsoka, maybe?

Speculate away. If you were ABC and had to keep costs reasonable, where in Lucas’ universe would you go?
