You know…even though I was all bothered by the prospect of a non-English Doctor Who, I’m totally fine with an English actor in this quintessentially American role. No, not because I don’t give two shits about the character – one shit, maybe – but because I think the more generic accent used by a non-native actor (like Christian Bale) is perfect for the cipher that is Patrick Bateman.
Besides, the idea of a stage musical based on the material is so nuts, what does the casting matter? I hope they do at least one song all about the typeface fonts on business cards. “I won’t go in the gloamin’/with Times New Roman/Just gotta get-ica/a good Helvetica” or something.
There’s also a TV show coming, about Bateman and his protegee. I’m guessing it ditches the “is it or isn’t it real” aspect of the first movie.
