Yes, this is a little anachronistic – fan conventions in the ’60s were nothing like today’s, but I suppose if we can accept the existence of Minions (or as my wife calls them, “MIIIIINIIIOOOOONSSSSSS!”) in the first place, it’s not such a stretch to imagine that the Comic-Con as we know it today was essentially birthed by supervillains. As the San Diego one exists today, it certainly feels like an evil plot at times.
I’m liking the look of this more and more – the problem with Despicable Me 2 was that Gru became less interesting once he became a nice family man. Bullock’s Scarlet Overkill looks to have no such sentimental weaknesses. I’m hoping the 1968 time frame allows her to go head to head with Richard Nixon.
