Tina Fey and Amy Poehler really went for the in-joke on this one. It took me a while to figure out exactly what the hell was going on, since it isn’t an obvious Star Wars riff at first.
“The Farce Awakens” is more specific than that. It’s a beat-for-beat parody of this:
And while there have been over ten million views of that clip on YouTube (at least 20 of which alone came from my household), that would seem like a pretty niche group to pitch your movie to. Particularly when it’s a totally different kind of movie.
