The Good and the Bad of Marvel’s Upcoming Hulk Cartoons
The fine folks at Action-Figure went to the NY Licensing Show and basically accosted people at the Marvel booth until they learned about a few new upcoming Marvel cartoons, including those straight-to-DVD ones that seemed to promising until Next Avengers.
The Good: Looks like there’s going to be a straight-to-DVD movie of the pretty damned popular Planet Hulk storyarc. Cool. Although I’d rather get World War Hulk, where he beats the shit out of the Marvel universe.
The Bad: If the Hulk movie does well enough, you can expect a kids’ cartoon, much like there’s going to be a kid-friendly Iron Man cartoon on Nickelodeon next year. Here’s the problem?it’s called Hulk: Gamma Corps, and it’s about the Hulk leading a team of other gamma’ed people, which would assumably include She-Hulk, Doc Samson, and…uh…other people. This sounds stupid beyond words.
The Potentially Very Ugly: Action-Figure also found out something called Wolverine Extreme will be coming out. Since there’s already that Wolverine and the X-Men TV series coming out, they assume this means a straight-to-DVD’er, and hope that it’ll be more adult and violent and shit. I think it’s far more likely that Wolverine will be skateboarding out of low-flying helicopters while drinking Mountain Dew from his wide-mouth slam can, but hope springs eternal.
