A Tale of Souls, Swords, and Finally, Some Goddamn Action Figures

Jesus! Today’s the day for some long-awaited news. Soul Calibur?arguably the best 3-D fighting game out there (do not pretend that Tekken or DOA are contenders)?has always had the most visually interesting and diverse characters of any fighting game, but when it came to toys, it’s always been screwed. Yes, McFarlane made four terrible non-action figures around the time of Soul Calibur II, and some other now defunct company made a small line that was obviously so great I’ve forgotten who made them and when.

Now, Triad Toys?who recently announced 12-inch Samurai Champloo figures?has the rights to Soul Calibur (and Tekken and Gun Crisis, the latter of which is beyond stupid). First up is a 6-inch Mitsurugi and a 12-inch Taki, my two personal favorites. There will also be 18-inch mixed media statues. I really hope they make Ivy next, as my third favorite, but then, I hope they don’t, because I don’t look forward to trying to explain to my wife why I want to buy a statue of a medieval-era S&M queen with quadruple-D breasts. I doubt it would go very well.
