The Green Hornet’s Seth Rogen Finds His Kato (and Director)

It took him a while, but Rogen finally did it?he got Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle star Stephen Chow to be Kato in his Green Hornet movie. The price? Chow’s going to direct, too. /Film is worried about Chow’s Looney Tunes-esque martial arts-style, but since there are probably five hardcore Green Hornet fans left on the planet, I think it’ll be a great match?it’s not like I was expecting to Rogen to beat the hell out of a group of bad guys without some extensive CG anyways. Chow also said the following, from the press releasee:

I?m excited to be taking on The Green Hornet?obviously, I?ve been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee?s shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true.

I always kind of forget that Bruce Lee is like a god to the Chinese, and that was likely behind Chow’s reluctance to accepting the role. I’m trying to think of an American equivalent here?maybe taking on Bogart’s role in a re-make of Casablanca or something?but there’d always be some hack director like Brett Ratner who would happily take on the project and hire Dane Cook or something. Hmm. I think I just made myself sad.
