You Have a Date with Jar Jar This Friday Night

Lucasfilm is hyping the fact that Jar Jar Binks is the star of this Friday’s episode of Clone Wars, as if anyone would find this a positive thing. I did manage to find a clip of Jar Jar apparently dying, but I don’t have much hope that actually happens, especially when the official plot synopsis is this:

Jar Jar Binks and C-3PO team up to save Padm? Amidala from doom at the hands of evil Viceroy Nute Gunray. But the task becomes infinitely more complicated when the Separatists assume that the Gungan is a Jedi.

So, here’s the weird part: Kevin Rubio, director of the Star Wars/COPS parody Troops and writer of Dark Horse’s Tag and Bink Are Dead comic, both of which are…well, funny. IESB has some quotes from Rubio:

?I wanted to find a middle ground between the funny side of Jar Jar and heroic redemption,? Rubio says. ?He is a fish out of water, and, yeah, he can be goofy and stupid, but in context, it works.

?There?s a phrase that I think applies to almost every episode that I?ve seen, and I know it influenced me on this episode. It appears in the prologue to the original Star Wars novelization: ?They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Naturally they became heroes.? I think that says it all for Jar Jar.?

So, Rubio on one side, and an annoying racist caricature/alien on the others. It’s kind of even, until you hear the title, which is…”Bombad Jedi.” You guys can just tell me how it is, okay?
