Bloom County Is Getting Collected, All Is Right with the World

I’m going to give everyone over at IDW a big kiss on the lips. Maybe a little tongue, too. They deserve it — the comics publisher has just announced they’ll be releasing The Bloom County Library, an utterly complete, hardcover collection of my favorite comic strip of all time. From the press release:

IDW Publishing is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of The
Bloom County Library. Beginning in October 2009, each of the five
volumes will collect nearly two years worth of daily and Sunday strips,
in chronological order. This will be the very first time that many of
these comic strips have been collected, and the first time in a
beautifully designed, hardcover format. The books will be part of IDW’s
Library of American Comics imprint, and designed by Eisner Award-winner
Dean Mullaney.

“Fans have pestered me for years,” said Berkeley Breathed, “for this
ultimate Bloom County collection in that polite, respectful badgering
way that only fans can manage. Thank God I can now tell them something
better than just ‘please remove your tent from my lawn.’ I can say,
‘It’s coming!”

I understand that Calvin and Hobbes might be the better comic, but it never made me laugh as much as Bloom County. I have zero doubt that anything funny I have ever said or written has been cribbed from either Bloom County or MST3K, so I could not be more excited at this news — especially, as the press release says, many of the early strips never made it to the books. I am boinging so hard right now! (Via Newsarama)
