And This Is the Other Reason I Hate April Fool’s Day

Because Mattel released pics of all their San Diego Comic Con exclusive toys yesterday, and even though I was almost certain they were real — having seen a few parts of ’em in production and having heard several corroborating rumors — I refused to post ’em, just in case they were fake. Because it was April Fool’s Day. Because real companies don’t release real news on April Fool’s Day. Good job, Mattel. That was fucking hilarious.
So here’s the run-down: the DC Universe Classics is getting Zan and Jaina, the Wonder Twins, while the MOTUC is getting He-Ro, the strange-looking wizard guy from a late and unproduced MOTU series of the ’80s. The DC Infinite Heroes will have an Anti-Monitor (in-scale, but there’ll be raffles for a very few 30-inch Anti-Monitor figures). There’s some JLU three-pack of Hal Jordan, Abin Sur and Sinestro, and they have swappable heads.
And last but not least, Mattel will be offering the first Ghostbusters figure, of Egon and Slimer. Now, this isn’t a pure con exclusive, in that like all the toys on here, it’ll be available on MattyCollector.com shortly after the show. So you’re not going to miss out on some weird Ghostbusters variant figure (although the toy could get sold out online within minutes of it becoming available for purchase due to Mattel’s limited production, much like even the MOTUC has-beens like Stratos have been doing. So you’re welcome to worry about that).
The only figure available at SDCC that you can’t get online later is Gleek, the Wonder Monkey with the Unholy Smile on Its Face. Turns out Mattel will only be giving him as a “gift with purchase” to people who buy Zan and Jaina at the con, thus ensuring that several hundred poor nerdy bastard will pay exorbitant prices for the terrifying monkey figure shown above, because I imagine the Venn diagram of “People Who Want Wonder Twins Figures” and “People Who Want Wonder Twins Figures Including Gleek” is pretty much two overlapping circles.
