DVD Day: April 7th, 2009
? The Day the Earth Stood Still
The less impressive Keanu Reeves version, not the original classic. But you probably knew that.
? Scooby Doo and the Samurai Sword
I just want you all to look at this and tell me I’m not dreaming it as part of some horrible DTs or something. I have no idea what Scooby Doo would need with a samurai sword, but i think honors demands that he use it to kill Scrappy.
? Naruto Uncut Box Set 13
The uncensored filler episodes, but I’m not sure if it includes the episode where Naruto pees on everyone. I’m not kidding. It happened.
? Max Fleischer’s Superman 1941-42
Apparently these were all featured in the original Superman and Superman II special edition DVDs, so if you have those, you don’t need this.
? The Mysterious Cities of Gold
Over 1000 minutes of the cartoon you may have watched on Nickelodeon back in the early ’80s. The Deluxe Edition has an insane amount of extras, so you probably want that one if you one at all.
? Shaw Bros. Collection
Contains The Heroic Ones, The Battle Wizard, The Duel of the Century and Two Champions of Shaolin. Can’t go wrong with that.
? Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders
Yeah, it’s already been released on DVD, and yeah, it’s terrible even by the low standards of the first Flesh Gordon movie. Still, I felt compelled to mention it. It’s my problem, not yours.

About The Author
Robert Bricken is one of the original co-founders of the site formerly known as Topless Robot, and its first editor-in-chief, serving from 2008-12. He brought the site to prominence with “nerd news, humor and self-loathing” as its motto, raising it from total internet obscurity to a readership in the millions, with help from his savage “FAQ” movie reviews and Fan Fiction Fridays. Under his tenure Topless Robot was covered by Gawker, Wired, Defamer, New York magazine, ABC News, and others, and his articles have been praised by Roger Ebert, Avengers actor Clark Gregg, comedian and The Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman, the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax, and others. He is currently the managing editor of io9.com. Despite decades as both an amateur and professional nerd, he continues to be completely unprepared for either the zombie apocalypse or the robot uprising.
