Lego Universe’s Gameplay Isn’t Mind-Shatteringly Awesome, But It’s Still Pretty Awesome

Yesterday, I posted the impossibly badass trailer for Lego’s MMORPG Lego Universe. Pretty much everyone agreed is was the most awesome videogame trailer since that Star Wars: The Old Republic cinematic Bioware put out last summer, which is impressive in and of itself since Lego Universe didn’t have an army of Sith having a lightsaber melee with Jedi.

Anyways, a few negative nellies pointed out that the trailer contained no gameplay whatsoever. This is technically true, but thanks to CES, there’s a lengthy walkthrough in several parts over at GameTrailers beginning here. I picked my favorite section and posted it above; it contained a bit of combat, some building, and some of the great Lego-strewn settings that the game will feature.

Remember, this is a game for kids, as the interviewee points out about a million times — I don’t say that to make an excuse for the game, but for three reasons: 1) this thing is only coming to PC, but it’s gotta be kid-friendly enough to easily port over to consoles, right? Please? 2) Lego apparently plans on having moderators check every name and player creation — I can’t help but wonder how feasible that’s really going to be, especially if the game is a success. And last but not least, 3) because I’m over 30 and possibly more excited about this than Final Fantasy XIII.
