First Look at the 300 Prequel, 299 Uh, Xerxes
?Frank Miller’s really doing it. He’s really making Xerxes, a graphic novel preview to 300. You’re looking at a lithograph of the title character; the comic will be a six-issues mini-series released by Dark Horse in 2011. A few thoughts:
? Who wants this, other than Frank Miller’s bank account?
? No, seriously, does Miller really expect people to be interested in the back story of the weird, incredibly decadent, vaguely hermaphroditic piercing fetishist from 300?
? Specifically, a story where this freak totally defeats the Greeks, the good guys from the original comic/movie?
? Is Xerxes wearing a huge Wonder Woman logo as a cape? And how sad that if he is it would still be the most sensible part of his outfit?
? Does Hollywood think people will see a movie based on this? BECAUSE THEY WON’T.
? The guy who played Paulo in Lost played Xerxes in the 300 movie. That still blows my mind.
? THIS IS A REALLY, REALLY TERRIBLE IDEA ON ALL LEVELS.
Frank Miller has more to say about Xerxes over at Robot 6, but nothing that convinces me this won’t be a total debacle. I look forward to idiotic Hollywood making it a movie anyway and them being surprised when it totally tanks.
