The Secret of Yesterday’s Awesome Mortal Kombat Video Revealed

Sub-Zero_08062010.jpg

?Remember, our theories were:

A) A clip from a new MK movie
B) A live-action intro to a new MK game
C) A shockingly well-made fan flick that managed to hire both Jeri Ryan and Michael Jai White

The answer is D (although you might be able to get away with saying “C”). As Jeri Ryan revealed on her Twitter yesterday, the short was made by director Keven Tancharoen to get studios interested in the idea — well, his idea — of a new Mortal Kombat movie. I assume he went to Warner Bros. first, because other wise things would get very awkward, very quickly.

That’s a lot of money for one dude to spend on a sales pitch, but the way that thing careened around the internet yesterday, I’d say Tancharoen proved pretty handily that many, many people would be interested in seeing his MK movie. Unfortunately, now it’s in Hollywood’s hands. Thanks to everyone who sent in the update, and to Scott M. for the screencap of Sub-Zero.
