The Star Wars Sequel Rumor Resurfaces for the 867th Time
This weekend, the rumor that George Lucas was thinking about making some Star Wars sequels resurfaced as it has periodically since Return of the Jedi was released in 1983. I don’t know. I’ve lived with the hope/threat of new Star Wars movies for so long I don’t actually know how to process this, but here’s what we know.
? The rumor comes from IESB, who says they have an inside source at Lucasfilm.
? IESB has scooped a bit of Lucasfilm news in the past, so this isn’t unprecedented.
? That said, all they have is a dude telling them George is thinking about it.
? The sequels would be set post-ROTJ and star no Skywalkers.
…and that’s all we got. Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about this. My default state is to be excited about new Star Wars flicks, but the prequels did a number on that. But then I remember that Lucas was trying to fill in the blanks for those movies, and this would be an open slate. Then I remember the prequels still had problems like horrible dialogue and awful performances, things which a clean slate wouldn’t help with. But then I wonder if George would maybe hired other people to direct like he did for ESB and ROTJ, and that could be very good indeed. I don’t know. I just don’t know. Which is why it’s probably for the best that this is just a rumor.
