Nicholas Courtney, 1929-2011

Nicholas Courtney has passed away at the age of 81. Fans of the classic Doctor Who series will immediately recognize him as Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, the beloved character that he played for 40 years alongside Doctors 2-8 (either on TV or the audio dramas). Actually, Courtney also had a small Who role during the first Doctor’s tenure, although as a different character… and he actually acted with David Tennant during a Who audio drama, although this was before Tennant was playing the Doctor. As a guy who only knows the new Who, I admit I hadn’t even heard of the characters before, but based on how many sad emails I’ve received over the last 24 hours, he will certainly be missed.
