TV Trifecta: Fringe, Chew, G.I. Joe Renegades

?? I’m sorry, someone was saying something about a Friday night death slot? Fringe has been renewed for a fourth season, which is incredibly good news. I’ve said this before, but if you gave up on Fringe in the first season when it seemed like a crappy X-Files copy, you should seriously give it another try. It’s absolutely one of the most rewarding sci-fi shows on TV. I’ll spare you the reasons why, but the show currently has Anna Torv (who I used to think was a poor actress — no longer) doing a killer Leonard Nimoy impression, and it’s just this weird, goofy, massively entertaining sci-fi insanity that I still can’t believe it’s on a major network. ? Showtime has bought a pilot for the Image comic Chew. I’ll let CBR do the heavy lifting:

Deadline is reporting that the Showtime
cable network – known for quirky programming such as “Weeds” and
“Dexter” – has bought a pilot script for a “Chew” TV series in a deal
set up by the agents at Circle of Confusion who also helped bring “The
Walking Dead” to the air. The script was written by “Eureka” writers
Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer, however changes are expected to be
made with the inclusion of Showtime and director/executive producer
Stephen Hopkins (“Californication”).

“Chew” tells the story of special agent Tony Chu – a cibopath who can
see the past life and eventual death of anything he eats who lives in a
world where poultry is outlawed thanks to a sweeping bird flu pandemic.

I’ve never talked to anyone who has read Chew that didn’t love it, so I imagine this is good news. At the very least, it’s another acclaimed comic getting turned into a series intended for adult nerds, and that’s always a good thing.

? In less good news, apparently G.I. Joe: Renegades is going on hiatus until after the second live-action movie… although that’s kind of a long ways away, so I’d guess it chances of coming back are pretty slim. That’s a shame, because even though it was The A-Team Starring G.I. Joe, Renegades was pretty fun. Man, it was ugly as hell, though. (Via General Joes)
