Well, Forget About the Wolverine 2 Movie Not Sucking
?“Geek Apparel of the Week” has been slightly delayed so I can bring you the following report:
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK. Now, that report in context, from the Hollywood Reporter:
Darren Aronofsky is bowing out of directing 20th Century Fox’s sequel The Wolverine, saying the project would keep him out of the country for too long.
Fox and Hugh Jackman – who is set to return in the title role – said they remain fully committed to making Wolverine and will move aggressively to find a new director.Fox hadn’t yet greenlit the sequel. A significant portion of the movie
will be shot overseas (there had been plans to shoot in Japan).“As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year,” Aronofsky said in a joint statement with Fox.“I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of
time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is
a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with
my friend, Hugh Jackman, again,” he continued.
I can’t tell you how disappointed I am by this. I’m not even a big Wolverine fan, but to have a filmmaker like Aronofsky direct a superhero movie — well, it’s level up from Nolan directing Batman Begins. Plus, the fact that he was directing a sequel to a truly shitty first movie… well, it’s more akin to Nolan directing a fifth Batman movie after Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, and that’s just craziness. I really, really wanted Aronofsky’s Wolverine 2 to happen, for the madness of it alone. Even if Fox gets another auteur — and I’m willing to bet they don’t, they just get some famous hack to step in and keep from having to reschedule shit (*cough*Ratner*cough*Sommers*cough*) — and maybe if Aronofsky did enough work on the script that i manages to survive a new director — maybe we’ll see a hint of what could’ve been… but I sincerely doubt it. Fuck. Thanks to EVula for the tip.
