Profile of a Sucklord

?I remember way back in 2001, during my ToyFare days, when the Sucklord was just an amusing artist/asshole who made awesomely terrible Star Wars bootleg toys and an odd but enjoyable Star Wars remix album. Now he’s an amusing artist/asshole whose awesomely terrible Star Wars bootleg toys selling for hundreds and thousands of dollars. My comrades at Village Voice have written an extensive profile on the Sucklord and his successes, which I think is pretty fascinating, even if I weren’t being ordered by my overlords to pimp it to you guys (the photo’s by Dustin Fenstermacher, FYI).

But if shameless pimping isn’t enough for you, there is news here: the Sucklord — or, if you don’t know him, a man who makes bootleg Star Wars toys and whose last art exhibition/sale was titled You’re an Asshole for Buying This — will be a contestant on the second season of Bravo’s Work of Art: The Search for the Next Great Artist, which is like a Top Chef for artists, produced by Sarah Jessica Parker. I can’t stand reality shows, I can’t stand anything on Bravo, and I certainly can’t stand Sarah Jessica Parker, but watching the Sucklord wreak his wreak upon all three has suddenly made Work of Art appointment viewing for me.
