George W. Bush Lost the Game of Thrones

Seeing as I can’t even post a goofy-ass video starring a ridiculous impression of Calvin Coolidge without someone freaking out, I was hoping to avoid the brouhaha that President George W. Bush’s severed head graced the pikes on the last episode of season 1 of Game of Thrones altogether. Unfortunately, it is news, so here it is: President George W. Bush’s severed head graced the spikes on the last episode of season 1 of Game of Thrones. Please note:

? This was not done as any kind of political statement at all.
? Indeed, production just needed severed heads, and the prop department had a Bush head laying about.
? As you can tell from the pic — which is a severe close-up of part of the shot where Joffrey makes Sansa look at her dad’s head on a pike and not an actual shot in the show — they put a wig on it and turned it away from the camera to minimize the chance anyone could tell it was Bush.
? In fact, no one would have even know it was Bush except that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss mentioned that it’s Bush in episode 10 director’s commentary track.
Seeing as the season one DVDs were released back in March and we’re only having a kerfluffle now, you can tell what a non-issue this was until someone caught up on the GoT extras and decided to make it an issue. HBO apologized and made Weiss and Benioff apologize. And despite all this, someone in the comments here is going to freak out. But feel free to prove me wrong. (Via Warming Glow)
