Fine, I Guess We Can Have Decent Hobbit Action Figures

When it was announced that The Bridge Direct — makers of Justin Bieber dolls, Zhu Zhu Pets, and jack shit else — would get The Hobbit action figure license, I was… skeptical of how good the figures would be. Based on my knowledge of the toy industry, I know that very few companies release a good action figure line on their first attempt — and with a huge property like The Hobbit, the problems are usually compounded. Well, looks like I needn’t have worried.

The first pics of TBD’s Hobbit figures have surfaced, and they’re fine. Good, even. That’s Bilbo, obviously (I’m pretty sure it’s the 6-inch version [which I’m hoping means the 6-inch scale version, like Toy Biz’s LotR figures, and not actually 6-inches tall]and not the 3-3/4-inch version [see previous note about scale versus actual size]); ToyNewsI has pics of a less great but certainly solid Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield, and the suddenly SDCC exclusive invisible Bilbo. Of course, there remains the questions if The Bridge Direct’s Chinese factory has the skills to mass produce figures of this quality… but clearly stranger things have happened.
