Flaming meteor thingies! Battle sequences featuring music from a Celine Dion soundalike! Heroes! Villains! Pensive looks! The Eye of Sauron! (Well, close enough). Drama! More blue lights than a vice squad bust! Some dude who looks like the offspring of Yoda and Harry Shearer’s character from A Mighty Wind! A tagline that references Semisonic’s “Closing Time!” Yes friends it’s the new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn! Here’s the official description “Witness the end of an era as the Eorzean Alliance clashes with the
Garlean Empire in a bid to deliver the realm from certain destruction.” Sure, why not?
So is this an epic of epic epicness or Square Enix trying way too hard to overcompensate for no longer generating MMO excitement like it used to? I leave that up to you guys to figure out while I go play Maniac Mansion again. You have until the game’s tentative release date of December 13, 2013 to come to a decision.
