Sly Cooper Movie Trailer, With Reaction From Our Own SlyDante

slycoopermovie.jpg

Well, it looks like the latest video game to movie will be Sly Cooper, a favorite of our regular contributor/tipster Kyle LeClair, whose chosen username of SlyDante777 gives you just some idea how much of a mega-fan he is.

First, let us watch the trailer. And then I’ll share with you one of the most rapid email moodswings I’ve ever seen (with his permission).

Kyle’s initial reaction:

CGI????? WHY DID YOU FUCKERS GO WITH CGI???? YOU TOOK A GAME KNOWN FOR CEL-SHADED GRAPHICS & PRAISED FOR CEL-SHADED GRAPHICS BECAUSE THEY PERFECTLY CAPTURED THE OLD-SCHOOL SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON ATMOSPHERE WITH WAS THE FUCKING POINT, & WENT WITH FUCKING CGI???? DO YOU HONESTLY THINK KIDS ARE SO FUCKING BRAINDEAD THEY CAN’T ACCEPT ANY OTHER KIND OF ANIMATED FILM???? THIS IS NOT RATCHER & CLANK!!! CGI JUST MAKES IT LOOK FUCKING AWKWARD!!!! ARE YOU FUCKERS TRYING TO KILL ME AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

Kyle’s re-reaction, four hours later:

Basically, everything about it does look good except for the general awkwardness of the CGI style & some changes to the character designs in the process, which as mentioned, misses the point incredibly hard. And “It looks good, except for the CGI” or “The trailer is better than it looks” seems to be the general consensus by now, from what I’m seeing. Though seriously, a lot of people had trouble getting past those initial stills, so if you’re running this (& on an aside note, I have snipers), be wary.

But again, I stress that this is missing the point of the games & their cartoon homages pretty damn hard. Especially since this is being made by Rainmaker & Blockade, the same guys behind the upcoming Ratchet & Clank movie that looks incredibly faithful to the game, so this baffles me…(& is also making fan theories for a Jak & Daxter film in 2017 or so shoot up). Guys, better make some improvements…

So between drinking over the use of CGI & some design choice & cheering over everything else, things have levelled down to “cautious optimism” levels for me. At the very least, Sly Cooper is trending on twitter now, which is the most buzz he’s gotten in a while…=P

There you have it. Do you side more with “Dr. Dante” or “Mr. Kyle”?
