Go Go Movie Power Rangers Reboot! Jason David Frank Desperately Trying to Star!

No, Jason, what’s official is that you have morphed into Richard Hatch, who spent years pushing a Battlestar Galactica sequel series fan trailer to star in after failing to catch on in any other roles, only to see it get rebooted into something way more popular. On the plus side, they did eventually give him a cameo.

Anyway, be sure to email “lion gates” like he asks if you want to see him in the lead and believe there’s a chance in hell it’ll happen.

And yes, Lionsgate today just announced a new Power Rangers feature film. The press release is initially generic as to which Power Rangers, but then says:

The new film franchise will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.

So I guess that means Trini, Kimberly, Tommy, Billy et al. Though given the way the original Billy left the series after coming out as gay and being treated like shit for it, don’t expect a cameo.

While the original Power Rangers show reused Japanese TV show footage for all the big action scenes, their first big-screen bow in 1995 utilized CG Megazords that looked slightly dated even for the time, and featured a wonderfully hammy performance by Paul “Belloq” Freeman as villain Ivan Ooze. It was more fun than the cheap knockoffs that followed. Frankly, this is one reboot where fans need not worry to much – you can bet that it the very least, the bad dubbing and exposed-zipper costumes will be improved upon.

I wonder if their lips will ever move…
