Yes, it’s the Equestria Girls versions of the ponies, which are not everyone’s favorite. But perhaps it was too much reinvention to modify the Federation starships for non-bipeds.

Other than that, it’s a mash-up that makes sense Star Trek fans used to be considered the marginalized oddballs who obsessed over fan fiction (and invented slash); nowadays it’s a mainstream fandom, while stigmas similar to those old ones apply to the Brony community. And the crossover seems to be significant – as Gallen Dugall, who submitted the tip, put it, “I keep telling people that Star Trek Online is mostly bronies these days but no one wants to believe me.”
