Geek Apparel of the Week: “Brony Trekker” Shirts Prove a Starship Is Magic
Yes, it’s the Equestria Girls versions of the ponies, which are not everyone’s favorite. But perhaps it was too much reinvention to modify the Federation starships for non-bipeds.
Other than that, it’s a mash-up that makes sense – Star Trek fans used to be considered the marginalized oddballs who obsessed over fan fiction (and invented slash); nowadays it’s a mainstream fandom, while stigmas similar to those old ones apply to the Brony community. And the crossover seems to be significant – as Gallen Dugall, who submitted the tip, put it, “I keep telling people that Star Trek Online is mostly bronies these days but no one wants to believe me.”
