DVD Day: October 27th, 2009
?? Battlestar Galactica: The Plan
This is the #1 selling DVD on Amazon of this week’s releases; not bad for a direct-to-DVD movie of a Syfy series, really. Although I can’t help but wonder if nerds are buying it in the dozens because of the rumored excessive nudity in the flick, and, assuming they’re going to get to see Tricia Helfer and/or Grace Park naked, they want extras in case they wear out the grooves on the DVDs. I don’t know that Helfer or Park get naked in The Plan, actually, I just heard there’s a great deal of BSG-themed nudity. So don’t kill me if it’s some flock of random actresses in a gratuitous shower scene. Please.
? Monty Python: Almost the Truth
A massive three-DVD documentary/special which reunites the Pythons, shows rare archival footage, and gets interviews from some of the best comedians in the world about how awesome Monty Python was/is. I think I have to watch this.
? Monty Python: The Other British Invasion
Almost the Truth not sate you? Here’s a bunch of 2008 Python documentaries from the last big collector’s set they offered, now on its own.
? The Prisoner: Complete Series Megaset
The entirety of the 1968 classic TV series for a mere $45, although apparently it’s exactly the same as the last complete series set, just in different packaging. I have not seen this show, but plan to correct this very soon.
? Stargate: 15th Anniversary Edition
Apparently this new Blu-ray includes but the theatrical cut and the director’s cut on one disc, which is good, plus a few new features. Assuming you have one or more of the originals, it’s probably worth the upgrade.
? Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1960s Vol. 2 and 1970s Vol. 2
Each set has two discs of forgotten — and mostly deservedly so — cartoons from the ’60s and ’70s. Frankly, I’d rather you spend your money on seeing which Battlestar Galactica ladies strip down.
? Tales from the Darkside: Season 2
This exists. I have no other comment.
