Final Fantasy XIII’s Combat Does Make Me Wet ‘Em

Last week I posted the opening trailer to Final Fantasy XIII — not the game’s intro, mind you, just a little video the game plays while waiting for your lazy ass to press start. It didn’t blow my mind, but it was nice to see to remember a new FF game was coming out in a few months. Well, Square Enix released a slew of gameplay videos over the holidays, and these totally make up for whatever excitement the previous video lacked.

I hadn’t seen the combat in action, so this video of a battle — along with bits of the Odin summon — just delights me. The attacks are dynamic and visually interesting for both the PCs and the bad guys. I know Square was trying to do that with the faux-MMORPG combat of XII, but really, all it meant is that your characters could walk around a little (and you never actually had to press a button). I have no idea what the hell an Optima Change is or what half the shit going on in this video means, but it’s a helluva a lot more entertaining to watch than FFXII.
