?From Variety:

Columbia Pictures is set to return to the Bronze Age. Studio is
bringing Doc Savage — known as the Man of Bronze and hero of pulp
novels, films and comicbooks — back to the bigscreen.

Shane Black
is attached to direct the film from a screenplay he is penning with
Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. Neal Moritz (“Fast and Furious”)
will produce through his Sony-based Original Film banner. …

Black, who was one of the highest-paid scribes of late ’80s and early
’90s when he penned such screenplays as “Lethal Weapon” and “The Long
Kiss Goodnight,” segued to directing in recent years. He made his
helming debut with the Robert Downey Jr. starrer “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”
(2005).

Okay. Maybe I’m overstating things in the article title a little bit. Maybe like 20-30 nerds do. But the fact of the matter is that it
is 2010, and Doc Savage reached the pinnacle of popularity in the ’30s and ’40s. He may have had a nice little resurgence in the ’60s with some comics, but that was it. He isn’t a perennially popular character like Batman. Hell, he’s not even Iron Man. Hell, he’s not even Hellboy. Why don’t you just buy the rights to Alec Baldwin’s The Shadow movie, and re-release that instead? It won’t do any worse than a new Doc Savage movie, and you’ll lose far less money overall. Grr.
