Topless Robot — are you ready to rock?!

Yes? No? Maybe? Well, it’s irrelevant, because I’m not going to be playing any music for you. I am, however, going to post the results of this weekend’s “Making the Band” contest, with an extra-special honorable mention for Jim Meyer, who used certain action figures to form the awesome house band you see above on his desk. I approve wholeheartedly, although I can’t help but wish Doctor Doom was riding a unicorn. Anyways, HMs and the winners are after the jump. 3, 2, 1, let’s jam!

Honorable Mentions never wear the band shirt to the concert.

Dave:

The Dead Jean Greys. Membership is self-evident, except for the unfortunately incident when Madelyne Pryor was kicked out of the group for a couple of albums as a result of conduct detrimental to the band. Musical genre: emo, with lots of angst. Roadies are usually small, swarthy Canadians. Fan base: super-serious dudes in dark glasses who talk constantly about their pain.

Someguy:

Who: All red shirt on Star Trek. Band name: Untimely Demise. Type of music: Famous for Funeral music. Behind the scene: Band members change so often they don’t list band members on music.

Lady Rainicorn:

They Might Be Subatomic Particles – Henry Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Ray Palmer and the citizens of Kandor’s They Might Be Giants tribute band. I’m told they do a kickass version of Birdhouse in Your Soul.

Chyromaniac:

Mike And The Mechanicals
Featuring:
Mike Nelson: Guitar/Vocals
Crow T. Robot: Bass
Tom Servo: Drums
Gypsy: Synthesizer
Formed during their time on the Satellite of Love, this Prog Rock quartet is best known for their hit song, “The Ballad of Zap and Troy,” as well as their touching cover of “California Lady.”

Shwee-Shwee:

Zaphod Beeblebrox, Ford Prefect, Trillian, Arthur Dent, and Marvin the Android start a Douglas Adams tribute band called The Whooshing Deadlines. Their first hit is entitled “We Apologize for the Inconvenience”, and it is literally two minutes and thirty-three seconds of silence.

SlyDante:

Dead/Alive, a supergroup consisting of Allen Ash of Angel Lust (from Dead Rising 2) on bass, Ox “The Drummer” of The Midnight Riders (from Left 4 Dead 2) on – shockingly enough – drums, & last but certainly not least, Lord Raptor (from Darkstalkers) on guitar & vocals.
After a constant outbreak of zombie apocalypses, society eventually enters a Shaun of the Dead-style phase in which zombies are gradually integrated into everyday life. Wanting to cash in on the new “zombie” trend, two famous survivors of notable zombie outbreaks meet up with a famous undead rocker wanting to do the same, & with their now-legendary style of what has been referred to as “industrial Southern metal”, the trio went on actually revolutionize music as we know it.
…There were also reports of their fans committing ritualistic suicide &/or purposely infecting themselves to become zombies, but y’know, those are just rumors from parents that just don’t understand.

Benfromcanada:

Connor MacLeod (Highlander movie series except The Source) Duncan MacLeod (Highlander: The Series, Endgame and The Source) Quentin MacLeod (Highlander: The Animated Series) and Colin MacLeod (Highlander: The Search For Vengeance anime) are The MacLeods! A Scottish folk band that tore up the local charts from 1745-2002, Sadly, the band broke up when all but Duncan mysteriously disappeared and he went solo. As he said in a recent interview “there can be only one.”

TrekNoid:

Nightcrawler, Daredevil, Wolfesbane and The Huntress for a Christian Praise & Worship band called ‘The Cross-men’.

Mark Poynter:

Band name: “Sean Bean’s Dead” – An ensemble orchestra group made up of all the characters played by Sean Bean that got killed. They feature all the great death scene music from all the films. Each Sean Bean character falls to the ground after their death song. Not a dry eye in the house as the last Sean Bean, “Boromir” on a violin, plays the Boromir death scene and slumps to the floor.

Gagagalvatron:

Cthulhu
Doctor Octopus
Davy Jones from POTC
Hogwarts Squid
They are “Tentacles, Spectacles, Mollusc, and Watch” and they sing folk emo death metal. Their debut album “Tentacular Overdrive” has the following tracks:
Hentai Me Up, Hentai Me Down
Sucker for Love
One is the Loneliest Number / Eight Is Enough
Inches? Try Feet!
Ink Spurt
Self Love Pod
Armed and Dangerous
Beak Performance

-Teela is forced to wear a Metal Bikini and Furry Loincloth for sex appeal (She also does Female vocals)
Their first CD was called The Ultimate Battleground
Track List:
01 My Fist is strong (like my love)
02 Pine Fresh and Flocked for you
03 You Flew Straight to my heart
04 All I can see is you
05 My Fabulous Secret (is that I love you)
06 I need a He-Man
07 Heartbreaking Falcon Lady
08 Battle Fisting my way to your heart
09 Ride me like a Battle Cat
10 I have the Power you have my heart
11 I can fix anything but my broken heart

Lars T:

The Tri-Wizard Experience: Dumbledore, Gandalf and Merlin joined forces outside of time to create this super group. Gandalf, once a member of The Grays, had a minor hit with “You shall not pass!” and provides lead guitar, playing his signature 6 necked guitar with a combination of blazing finger speed and mystic powers. Dumbledore, who was the bassist for Godrick’s Horcux supplies lead vocals and is best known for his dueling bass solos with HIMSELF using his time-turner. On drums, Merlin, best know for his stint in the short-lived band The Grail Hunters backs up Gandalf and Dumbledore on a custom drum kit that includes cymbals made from the shards of Excalibur. Merlin also calls down the THUNDER, literally during the band’s finale “Ride the Magic” . As a super group, The Tri-Wizard Experience, has had such awesome hits as Lay Lady Lake, Taken to the Chamber of Secrets, and the 17 minute epic instrumental S.M.O.G. (Shred Magic of Gandalf).

Gareth:

Tonight for one night only – Ganondorf’s rap trio… The Missing Links. With Skulltula the Mic Rula and Keese the Beast. Performing their hit singles ‘High Rule’, ‘Hey, Look, You Betta Listen’ and ‘Rupees, Cash, Hoes’.

Unfortunately that was their only song as after the release of their song, Shinji killed Kaworu, Rei committed suicide hoping she would be the last, Asuka’s wereabouts are unknown. Other Kazoos/Vocals———-50 Jamie Madrox “dupes”
Musical Style——–Twiztid Cover Band

hair-did:

The Bends – previously The Gaang – previously Sokka And The Benders – previously Sokka And Katara In The Basement –
Aang is the incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist/lead singer. Sokka is a solid second bass player and Katara plays the keyboard. Later in their career, once Aang rockets them to stardom, pampered but hardcore youngster Toph joins them on the drums. Their most recent addition is flamingly (!) passionate but messed-up and kind of amateurish Zuko.
They play kind of mainstream rock that nobody can find fault with, and unite hipsters, scene kids, hip-hop lovers, and pop music aficionados at their concert. The Fire Ladies (Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee) are their biggest competition and keep trying to sabotage them when they open for The Bends.

Bakasai42:

Batman, Superman, Spiderman.
Band Name: “We Used To Have Parents.”

Wedgie Antilles:

The Wilhelms
Membership rotates amongst all members from nerdy movies whose deaths were Wilhelm Screams.
Music Genre: Emo Death Metal
Sadly, they are pretty much one-hit-wonders, despite the band existing since 1951.

Bazzzinga:

Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne & The Border Moon Geese Jugglers:
Music Style: Country/Western
Songs Include:
Don’t impale my heart my heart breaky heart
Leaves on the Wind
Although The Geese Jugglers only ever performed one gig some say was they were perhaps the most innovative band to come out of the Border worlds in a long time, incorporating live geese juggling (a hazardous and difficult pastime at the best of times) into their acts with a new and progressive country/western sound, rarely before heard in the verse… Others say it was just an effective noisy and goose juggle fueled distraction engineered so that the vaults of a near by Bank could be emptied at gunpoint by a man wearing a brown coat and another wearing a distinctive Orange bobble hat without anyone noticing.

Kitty:

Band: ‘Torgo and The Brides’
Members: Torgo – Lead singer/tambourine
The Master – Drummer
Master’s wife no.1 – Guitar/vocals

Story: Formed in 1985, HH&TGK were a driving force in innovative music. But in 1995, they suddenly disappeared. Some say they still play together but have gone way, way underground. Hipsters everywhere claim them as the greatest music group ever, being as they’re so obscure and reclusive now.

Nostromo’s Second Android:

Freakazoid and Candlejack decide to make a dubste-

Jim Culver:

Ashes to Ashes. Ash Williams on guitar and lead vocals, Bad Ash on bass, and all the Little Ashes working together to play on the drumset. Bad Ash’s skeleton army (the survivors) are back-up dancers. Ted Raimi is the roadie.

Old Man Biff as the band’s worst critic
Music Style: They sound a little bit worse than your average garage band, but don’t tell Biff.
Song titles: “McFly,” “I Thought I Told You (Not to Come in Here),” and “I Hate Manure.”

Weak Orbit:

Ravage Lazerbeak Rumble and Frenzy are KISS. Knights in Soundwaves Service.

The Lewd Ood:

Icon, Mr. Terrific, Black Lightning, Crispus Allen, John Stewart, Steel, Cyborg, Thunder and Firestorm are the DC Wrekkin Krew, an affiliation of hard east coast rappers with a take-no-prisoners call for social justice.
Unfortunately, they have a running feud with the gangsta lifestyle promoting west coast Marrrvl Boyz: Blade, James ‘Rhody’ Rhodes, Black Panther, Luke Cage, Nick ‘Ultimate’ Fury and Bishop. The Marrrvls care only about makin’ paper, the lifestyle and keepin it out for No. 1.
After Cage supposedly took out that youngin’ Static, shit got real. This game’s gettin’ hard son, and the Krew’s fixin’ to come correct…

SocksArgyle:

The Yub Yubs:
Wicket: Lead Vocals/Guitar
Chief Chirpa: Bass/Vocals/Keyboards
Logray: Drums/Vocals
Chukha Trok: Guitar/Vocals
Starting as a side project between beating up stormtroopers with sticks and vines, The Yub Yubs soon began to tear up the galactic musical charts with their unique sound. After the release of their hit single “Orange AT-ST”, Chief Chirpa met Princess Kneesaa, an avant-garde artist/musician whom many credit with the breakup of the band. This, on top of his statement “Cha cha daboolhat bok chuu-chok bugdoo” (“We’re bigger than the emperor now.”), began a long spiral of terrible solo albums, death stick addiction, and hanging out with Jedi masters.

Wmcgee:

1. Who’s in the band? Khan Noonien Singh and Cha-Ka the Pakuni.
2. Band name? Cha-Ka Khan
3. Music? R&B, jazz, funk, adult contemporary pop
4. Songs? “I Can Go for That (Genesis),” “Pylon Me Something Good,” “Kirk on My List,” “Holly Smile”
5. Behind the music? Singh and Cha-Ka first met in 1967 at the Adelphi Ballroom in Philadelphia for a band competition. However, when gunfire rang out between a Sleestack and Federation gang, both Singh and Cha-Ka tried to escape and happened to run to the same service elevator. They struck up a conversation and, discovering they liked the same kinds of music and were both attending Philadelphia’s Temple University, started hanging out and eventually became roommates on Ceti Alpha V. They eventually signed to Atlantic Records and released their debut album in 1972.

Dancore:

Soundwave teams up with Zuse’s twin DJ’s to form the most lethal house band ever: DeceptiTron

Raymondthefrog:

Ok, here goes: KITT from Knight Rider, Autobot Jazz, Speed Buggy, Turbo Teen and possibly Lightning McQueen. Why this group? They’re in a Cars tribute band, of course!
…sorry, I don’t have a catchy name for them. I kinda hate myself for letting this thought get as far as it has.

GoufCustom:

Kamina on lead guitar and vocals!
Simon on bass guitar and backup vocals!
Kittan on drums!
Yoko on keyboard!
Nia on vocals!
Rossiu manging!
Just what the hell do you think this is?!
This… is… Sp?ral Tap!

And now for the winners! Without a doubt, this weekend’s greatest entry was this:

Mythbri:

The Manhattan Project, featuring Dr. Manhattan on drums, Dr. Manhattan on bass guitar, Dr. Manhattan on lead guitar, Dr. Manhattan on back-up vocals, Dr. Manhattan on keyboard, and Dr. Manhattan as lead vocalist.
Sadly, the Manhattan Project soon dissolved due to lack of interest in this all too temporary and fleeting human music scene.

Of course, since Mythbri, better known as Bri Buckley, writes semi-regularly for me now — and already has at least one TR shirt — she’s disqualified from getting another. She does, however, get the glory of knowing she had the best entry. Here are the other best entries, and the ones that will be receiving TR shirts:

CarnivorousBee:

Band mates Toph, Aang, and Sokka bring their soulful R&B sound across the globe. From the streets of
Ba Sing Se to the resorts of Ember Island don’t miss out on your chance to see Earth, Wind and Boomerang.

Visionary boy band music mogul, Charles “Wheelman” Xavier took the music scene by storm with his hand picked group Boys 2 X-Men. He did it again with *XSyng. Lets see if lightning can strike three times with his new group, New Mutants on the Block. With sexy diva Ororo Munroe on his arm, I wouldn’t bet against it.

Carnivorous Bee had two great entries, but probably would have won for the phenomenal “Earth, Wind and Boomerang” band name all by itself.

Rpmarsh:

The Wy’gils with the Great Old Ones. Call of Cthulhu meets Raffie! Get it on your cephalo-ipod today!

The Wy’glls. THE WY’GLLS. If someone doesn’t make fan art of the The Great Old Ones performing as a children’s musical group by the end of the week, I’ll be sorely disappointed.

And that’s that! Congrats to the winners, and thanks to everyone who entered. I’m not quite sure what this weekend’s contest will be yet, but I do know I have some pretty exciting stuff coming up, so please stay tuned…
