Luke’s Mother-in-Law Reports in From UFO Convention “Contact in the Desert”

As you may have gleaned from her recent columns, Luke’s mother-in-law is volunteering this weekend at the big UFO convention out in Joshua Tree. As time and Internet allows, she may file the occasional update – this is the first. If you have questions specific to Contact in the Desert, she may also answer them in comments below.
Well, we made it through orientation and registration. We have the volunteer badge and assigments. It is getting so close. I start work on Friday from 9:45 to 3:45 at Friendship hall. This is where the George Noory lunch on Saturday will be held and is also some of the properties retreat rooms for visitors. The location is the Joshua Tree Retreat Center.

Starting tonight is a caravan out to Giant Rock which is out in the Landers area. It is a huge rock (boulder). Under the rock has been hollowed out and it was known to be a spy station during WWII. It has also been a bar. The last time I was out to Giant Rock, I saw some military jets flying very low across the desert, doing test moves. We even had one come near the rock and hover – then take off straight up. Freaky.

Friday and Saturday nights they are having star watching parties – for all the city folk who can’t see stars. I just go to my back yard, stars, meteors, UFO’s etc. Saturday night they are also showing Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Some of the speakers on Friday will be Erich Von Daniken, Michael Telliger, Travis Walton, Nick Redfern, Robert Perala, Luara Eisenhower, Nick Pope and Richard Dolan. For a full schedule go to contactinthedesert.com
I have included some pictures. Out by the labyrinth is a great magnetic vortex – we have taken temperature meters out to this area and have gotten wild temp swings and have even seen things shimmer out into the desert. Many of the buildings at the center were designed by Frank L. Wright. The sanctuary building is most impressive.
