Marvel Decides They Should Probably Make a Decent Thor Cartoon

While we eagerly anticipate Kid Thor: Tales of Asgard/Adventures of Lil’ Thor/Jim Henson’s Thor Babies or whatever the hell Marvel’s next direct-to-DVD animated movie is, it appears Marvel has decided to release a Thor cartoon for people who enjoy Thor grown up and kicking ass. Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers will be a four-part, online series beginning March 28th, based on the graphic novel. I can’t decide if it’s really being animated or if it’s just a very well-done motion comic with an extra emphasis on the motion, but either way I’d say it looks pretty cool. At the very least, it doesn’t contain 10-year-old Thor and Loki banding together to catch Pok?mon or whatever the fuck Tales of Asgard is about.

Set Phasers to “Racist”

Remember the good old days of the far-off future, when Uhura was white and Sulu was a black man with an inexplicable Japanese last name? Of course you don’t, because you never owned A Mirror of Futility, a Star Trek comic and record set for kids from sometime in the ’70s. Says Comic Mix (who believes the first story might have been drawn by Neal Adams):

And it’s not a random fluke, either?because in the second story drawn by the late great John Buscema, “The Time Stealer”, it happens again. (It also features an appearance by someone who looks very close to Conan, but that’s another story.)

Clearly, Star Trek has always has licensing problems. Still, you have to wonder how this happened?did no one who worked on the comic ever watch the show? Did the character roster fail to point out that Sulu was Japanese and Uhura was black? Did the makers just hate Japanese men and love the white women? Or all of the above?

Incredible Hulk Teaser Trailer Teases Trailer

Things I’ve learned from this little preview of the The Incredible Hulk movie trailer:

? A real trailer is set to debut on MTV at 9:56 pm on Wednesday
? Ugly Betty has a cameo
? Tim Roth hasn’t aged since 1986, and may in fact be a vampire or something
? Movie execs apparently STILL think showing footage of the Hulk will spoil the movie somehow, when in fact everyone knows what the goddamn Hulk looks like
? Having a preview of a movie trailer is retarded

Crisis on Crisis on Infinite Reboots: The Crisis-ening

Uh… looks like DC Senior VP/Executive Editor and Co-Publisher Dan DiDio did a bit of housecleaning this weekend:

didiofacebook.jpg

?Wow. So… that’s that, huh? Wiping out three of the most popular (or at least best-selling) mega-events on DC’s (very) recent history, but also Crisis on Infinite Earths, arguably one of the best-known and loved comics ever? Over the weekend? With no further explanation or discussion? Awesome. Man, if I were any kind of DC fan, I would be livid over this. At this point, they’ve not only changed more than half the shit about the DC universe, but now they’re actively destroying the old one. Jesus.

DiDio did actually go back on Facebook to say that with the DCnU’s new “only existed for five years” span, that the Crises just couldn’t work as is. Which is absolutely true, but actually more a problem with the rebootening than the Crises. Maybe this is something they should have thought of before their arbitrarily reset their whole goddamn fictional universe and randomly decided whose past counts and whose doesn’t. And hey, you know what also doesn’t work “as is”? How Batman had Dick, Jason, Tim and fathered Damian in those five years, but I don’t see them going anywhere.

The fact of the matter is that almost nothing in DC makes sense anymore, because this whole idea was so incredibly poorly thought-through. But while DC sticks its fingers in its ears and starts singing the ’60s Batman theme whenever someone starts asking about Batman and Green Lantern, they could have easily done the same for Crisis on Infinite Earths, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis. Everyone would have been fine with that, or at least as fine as with everything else that’s happened. So I boggled DC actually went out of its way to kick these beloved stories out, and alienate their loyal audience — when, I remind you, they didn’t make that much of an effort to gain new readers other than slapping “#1” on all the covers. Madness, man. Madness. (Via Nerd Bastards)
